When I first drew this piece years ago it left most viewers uncomfortable, even rattled. I am more than a little surprised (and delighted) to have suddenly had multiple requests for a print! Being myself one of the many deemed different, heathen, and heretical, I am a fervent ally of those suffering discrimination. I meant this artwork as an advocacy for my kindred in the LGBTQ community. In the Old Testament, Genesis 1:27 describes the creation of humans, and only later the separation of the sexes. Certain readings lead one reasoning backward — that image in which likeness we were made must have itself been unseparated. To me there seems a tragic and beautiful sort of redemption in that one of the most abused forms of human being may in truth most closely resemble divinity.
